Come At Me Bro

Ninja Collective is my personal blog linked from the original NeriBros website.

My name is Marco and I’ve been a fan of the martial arts as long as I can remember.  Everyone knows San Diego is a hotbed for martial arts. When I was a child, I trained in disciplines such as Karate, Japanese Jiu Jitsu, Kempo, Kung Fu to name a few.

I stopped pretty much all physical activity for a period of 4 years during college, time I feel that I wish I was training, at least part time.  I had grown accustomed to the classic college lifestyle: studying late nights, eating crap, not getting enough rest, and drinking heavily.  I want to stress one thing about San Diego and in particular, going to the University of San Diego. This school is chock-full of “Come at Me Bro” physical specimens.  There was no way I could physically compete at any level with the majority of the men on campus. I considered myself a Gamma male; this was very disheartening. Though I didn’t consider myself overweight, my body simply did not feel good. I blamed everything on bad genetics.  These thoughts had me physically and mentally drained.

The day I graduated college, my girlfriend at the time asked me a simple question: If money wasn’t an issue, what would you do with your life? I had never thought about it before. I don’t know… I’ve been studying Chemistry for four years, and nothing else. Although I was passionate about science, and still am, I was far from the top of my class.  I was not motivated anywhere else at all. That question got me thinking. Why don’t I just do what I’m passionate about….all the time?

After college, the first day I got a job, I joined a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu gym. Eventually this lead to cross training in wrestling, muay thai, boxing, and judo. Training all these martial arts led to my awareness of lifestyle changes which would make me perform at my peak.  Not only has the martial arts lifestyle kept me content, it has helped me become physically and mentally stronger, confident, and very aware of how to keep my body running at maximum efficiency.  I’ve improved vastly in the way I live, from the way I eat to how I sleep at night. All of this stemmed from my passion of the martial arts. I created this site to showcase the training martial artists endure and lifestyle of the martial artist.

There has been a huge boom in the martial arts business in the past few years and it will only get bigger. Today, mixed martial artist are considered the top physical athletes in the world.  I find it funny… all I did when I was kid was do martial arts, and nearly 2 decades later I’m more involved than ever.   I’m still at the beginning of my journey but I’d like to share it with you.
